FAQs

Is this an over 18 event?
Yes, the Brisbane Openair Cinema is a fully licensed event restricted to persons over the age of 18.  Under 18 year olds will be only be permitted when accompanied by an adult (parent or guardian) and depending on film classification as well.

What about kids?
Children under the age of 6 will be admitted for free to kids movies (must be accompanied by an adult).  Concession rates of $9 apply for kids aged 6 - 15.  Adult rates apply to over 15's.

Can we bring our own food and drink to the event?
The Brisbane Openair Cinema is a fully licensed event (no BYO).  There is an inexpensive bar and we have arranged, with the generous support of our sponsors, a large selection of great value drinks and yummy food (including vegetarian choices).  You can also bring a picnic, but there is strictly no glass and no BYO drinks allowed at the event.

Can we bring our own chairs?
The Brisbane Openair is an outdoor event, on the grass. You're welcome to bring your own picnic blankets and chairs, but please bear in mind low chairs are more considerate to the people sitting behind you.  If you bring standard size chairs, you may be asked to sit on the side or at the back of the cinema area.

Can we hire chairs there?
Yes, a small number of deck chairs & beanbags will be available to hire for $3.00 however it is a ‘first come first served' basis.  Blankets will also be available for hire & purchase ($3 hire / $23 purchase).

What time do the screenings start?
The festival doors open at 5.30pm.  We have sunset drinks and entertainment during our ‘Orange Hour' where you can relax and chill out before the film.  Screenings begin at sundown and will roughly be around 6.30 - 7pm.

What about if it rains or gets cold?
The Brisbane Openair Cinema is an all-weather summer event.  Movies will still be screened if it rains, so bring warm/wet weather gear in case of showers or cooler weather.  Umbrellas won't be permitted as they obstruct the view of guests sitting behind you.  Disposable rain ponchos will be on sale for $2 if it rains.

What happens if a screening is cancelled?
If a session is cancelled for any reason, your tickets will be exchangeable for any other night of our Brisbane season.

What's the sound and picture quality like?
We offer one of the best cinema screens and sound facilities for a great movie experience.

Can I bring my dog, goldfish or pet mouse along?
Unfortunately pets are not allowed on the Rainforest Green or the Brisbane Openair Cinema grounds so pets will have to stay at home.  Sorry.
